Lesson: Understanding the World

Class: Reception Year: 2015-2016

Today, (21.04.16) Ellie came from Knowsley Safari Park to show us some minibeasts.  She walked around the circle to show us many things.

1: A Lion’s skull.  Some children thought that it looked like a dinosaur.

2: An elephants tooth.  We learned that elephants have 4 teeth, two at the top and two at the bottom.  We have two sets of teeth, our milk teeth and adult teeth.  Elephants have 6 sets.

3:  ‘Big Garry’ The Giant African land snail.  He can put his head inside his body and likes to eat mouldy mushrooms and tomatoes.

4:  Two Madagascan hissing cockroaches.  They are the dustbin men of the rainforest world.

5: Millie the Millipede:  She has 250 legs!  When she was a baby, she had 6 legs. We also learned that merrkats like to eat millipedes so if a millipede is caught, they will poo on the meerkat to make the meerkat drop it and not eat it.

6: Pop the milk snake.  He likes to eat mice.
