At St Marys we follow the National Curriculum 2014 programmes of study ensuring progression in knowledge, skills and understanding.
We bring History to life in a variety of ways: theme days, trips and visits from outside agencies. These help to build upon the children's learning experiences.
Pupils develop an awareness of the past using common words and phrases relating to the passing of time. History teaching also enables pupils to develop a knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history. Pupils gain an understanding of where people and events fit within a chronological framework and identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods. Pupils gain an understanding of how our knowledge of the past is constructed from a range of sources. Pupils are encouraged to ask and answer questions, choosing appropriate sources to support their understanding of key features of events. Pupils also gain an understanding that different versions of events may exist and give reasons for this.
